Lissette in plaid

her big dimples and girlish giggles along with the insistence on achieving multiple post-graduate degrees, make for a charming and enthusiastic presence. lissette is tireless, hard-working, and has a love for all things forever 21. seeing her always brightens my morning.

please notice--anything with pockets is cuter than anything without. even if it's plaid.

anthro prowl

on sunny afternoons, if i get out of work early, i head over to one of my favorite places in the world, Anthropologie. it's the quiet, woodsy, beautiful sanctuary i crave after the sterile, glaring chaos of work.
i love ducking into the dressing room with my name on the door (they spell it correctly, too) and modelling as many outfits as i can without being rude to the poor sales associates. when i hear the polite strain in their voices asking if i'm okay STILL, or i'm the very very last person in the store, i know it's time to pack it up.

kristen

kristen, one of my favorite co-workers is always so put-together.

she has that tall, elegant frame and wears everything well--boots with capris, tight pants and sweaters, even skirts with POLKA DOTS, which i hate.

i made the mistake of telling her that one day, in the midst of a offhanded and rather backhanded compliment (something to the effect of "i usually hate polka dots, but you pull it off pretty well...").

well, next thing you know, EVERYONE--all 10 people in the office were wearing polka dots on the morning i was back from vacation. it was a wall of human tackyness--i was seeing spots. she had coordinated a "welcome back, shelia" day. buncha smart alecks. couldn't help it--i snort-laughed for 10 minutes straight.

here she is in 1) animal print and her favorite watch, and then 2) head to toe black. she's so sleek and chic.
and despite the garish lighting, she's just so gorgeous.

more skinny jean outfits

necklace: anthropologie, sweater: anthropologie, blouse: zara woman, jeans: rock/republic, boots: franco sarto.
necklace: thailand special, stretchy top: forever21, skinny jeans: rock/republic, heels: dollhouse.
necklace: j.crew, bustier: maidenform, blouse: forever 21, skinny jeans: rock/republic.
chris, (my designer, metro husband of 1.5 years) loves to see me wear skinny jeans. me, i'm not so sure. of all the ways to draw attention to body imperfections (i.e. excess inner thigh fat, extra hippage, muffintop spillover), skinny jeans pretty much top the list.

key to wearing them--make sure they are truly skinny (skimming your figure, not flesh-choking)--and dark colors help. also always try to take pictures aiming the camera downwards, vs. straight on or from below the subject (especially if that subject is you and you just had a large po'boy for lunch).

my first fave outfit

This blog is to replace the polaroid picture index we would otherwise use to remember our cute fave outfits. I'm always at a loss as to what to wear in the am. Nothing like a little photo evidence for everyday inspiration!

I know I look angry here. Please don't be scared. It's just because I was trying to it myself into the right space/right lighting/click with one finger/couldn't find a tripod. It's grainy because it's real (real euphemistic for "not HD").

necklace: anthropologie, gathered blouse: forever 21, cardigan: forever 21, skinny jeans: rock/republic, boots: tommy hilfiger.
